experimenting in korsakow

‘media area’ widget in korsakow – Ok. so I have been thinking about the design and layout of my korsakow project and have been wanting to add, for example, graphics in it (for the title or perhaps the background). I thought that I could do this through editing the index.html file in dreamweaver to add those graphics/images . But I figured that I have been missing on other elements in the korsakow system interface. Good thing that Adrian provided a page on things that can be used in korsakow (I’m excited to finally experiment on using this widget)
‘editing index.html in HTML editor’ – I have been playing around with this for quite a while and been looking at web pages and other korsakow examples to see how things were coded in HTML. I admit that I only know a few in HTML. But yes, things learned from Networked Media really was helpful.
‘nodes that work as hubs’ – ‘dense nodes’ – not necessarily knowing all the connections but only what is relevant or related. I was reading and writing about hypertext yesterday and this reminds me of the different ‘reading process’ of hypertext from print, that is, not everything (text, video, sound) is required to be read to understand a hypertext or to consider the ‘reading’ as a complete one. ‘In a cluster or a cloud’ made up of nodes in a korsakow project, what it needs is a point of connection to link to other clusters or clouds; a clip that has multiple connections and ‘infinite life’ in korsakow to connect to other nodes in a cluster or a cloud; dense nodes link to other clusters and clouds and keep the connections within the korsakow project

What content should I make or use as dense nodes? How do I make the dense nodes work to connect to other clusters or clouds in my korsakow project?

Adrian mention the dense node idea to me and I am still in the process of figuring out how to make this work in my second k-film

Adrian gives an example,

I might have material that I have grouped (made as clouds) around night and day. I might then have to fllm something at dusk or sunset and use that as something that connects night and day and make this clip my connector. I might have inside and outside, light and dark, blue and red, and so on. In each case once I recognise what the terms of my structure are I can identify something that falls between them, and this is the one that I can use to join these two clusters or clouds together.

When I add keywords to my video clips, some of them intersect with one keyword to the other and this results into more keywords in that clip. So, I guess some of my video clips can then be ‘dense nodes’ because they relate to both keywords, for example, black and white, and the dense node is relevant to both ends, as grey.
compressing the project for export to low quality works faster and much better to test the project several times without having to export all files all over again.
compressing video thumbnails to appropriate size
korsakow as authoring and publishing tool for hypertext/multilinear projects
‘writing in korsakow’ as an ‘iterative process’ – I am so use to planning and drawing my ideas on paper. And I’ve learned that sometimes this practice won’t work especially if I intend to use a software to build my project. So the writing, testing, and making mistakes should happen in using korsakow

instead of referring to sketches, might be more useful to refer to a ‘working project’ as a prototype
to reflect on the working project is to seek questions about what the project aims to do, how it achieves this, what other ways that this can be achieved, why such steps were made
significance of the ‘style’ and the ‘content’ of the project
korsakow system works similarly as hypermedia (multi-linear video and sound)
keywords as a links in korsakow
video clips as nodes in korsakow
links can be random or defined in korsakow
a single link in a node can lead to multiple destinations (nodes) unlike in HTML where each link connects to one destination (or separate links for each destination)
authoring links is similar to defining ‘keywords’ or ‘links’ for a node to connect to other nodes
keywords as links allow to search for nodes (video and/or sound) with the same keyword – nodes (video and/or sound) become available for selection and viewing by the reader

In a k-film the set of possible destinations to a key word is constrained by a) the number of nodes containing that key word, b) the number of lives each node has (which limits the number of times it can be played, which in turn limits how often it can appear as a result of a search), and c) how many thumbnails have been allocated to present the outcome of the search.

the number of lives determines the number of times that a node (video clip or sound) appears in korsakow
one can limit the number of thumbnails that be can displayed in a korsakow of the project; if there are more ‘search’ results that a keyword selection has, then only the set number of results can be viewed
so the pathway in a korsakow project through keywords as links becomes complicated as more nodes are added and as keywords are authored or defined
in korsakow overview, I’ve followed the same practice in keeping my ‘media assets’ for my korsakow project. This method really does help in keeping media files organised and accessing them efficiently
